Welcome...

2013...

I have been using a Tumblr blog for sometime so my most recent blogs, photos and sound clips are to be found at:

Art work pre 2010 is documented here, use the archive to have a look around whilst I work on pulling it all together into one place.

Recent news:

Listen out for Framework Afield on Resonance 104.4FM on 28th June 2009 10-11pm. The binaurally recorded show curated by Dallas Simpson includes fellow Yorkshire artist Phill Harding and maybe some mention of my work....

The Axis Dialogue journal Winter 09 issue features a binaural podcast made by Stuart Bannister and myself with New York tour guide and art critic Merrily Kerr in October 2008. Take a listen as Stuart and I get taken around the commercial art galleries of Chelsea, New York City. www.axisweb.org/journal

Also in Dialogue are interviews I have undertaken with women working in the arts in Montreal to mark International Women's Month. It was a great opportunity to follow up on some of the amazing places and people Stuart and I saw and met on our 2 month trip to Canada and the US.
'Do we still need to bother about feminism?'

June 2008
One of my book works was be featured in a brand new creative venture in Leeds - The Bowery cafe and art gallery in Headingley. Curated by Lousie Atkinson, the exhibition called 'Time and Space' uses the stage set of a domestic space to present a number of book works that deal with "nostalgic associations of place and memory, alluding to the obsolete, discarded and lost". Click here for more information about the exhibition.

'Time and Space' is open from 2 June – 1 August 2008
The Bowery: 54 Otley Rd, Headingley, Leeds, LS6 2AL
opening hours : 8am – 6pm daily (Tues, Wed, Thurs till 9pm)

I am showing one of my original book works - 'Press Play, Read'
‘Press Play, Read’ is a book work and audio CD.

“In creating the space of domesticity the intention is to close against unexpected encounter.”
Doreen Massey, taken from Reinventing The Home, Blueprint, March 1999, p.23-26

The work draws on the emotional experience of having the domestic space invaded either by humans or animals. The narrative text represents a physical encounter; the sound is unidentified and uncomfortable.

As the white cotton bound book is read, traces are left behind by each reader’s hand, in much the same way as the home records an invasion on it, both physically and emotionally.
