Sound, as a component in an artwork, has often taken second place to the visual. Spool examines the force of sound within an artwork, and takes account of the qualities it lends.

The selection of works by Juan Cruz, Tacita Dean, Lucy Gibson, Imogen Stidworthy and Neil Webb give us new and differing insights into the field where ‘sound’ meets ‘the visual’.
